US F-18 Fighter jet plane crashes, pilot killed.

The U.S. F-18 fighter jet plane crashed on Wednesday after taking off from an air base in eastern England killing the pilot who happens to be the only person aboard.

The jet which was returning from a rotational deployment to the Middle East failed to rendezvous for a mid-air refueling.

The crash comes a year after a U.S. Air Force F-15 crashed in a field near Lakenheath.

Cambridgeshire Police said the jet crashed on farmland in Redmere after leaving the Lakenheath air base in the county of Suffolk at about 10.30 a.m (local time).

Air Force spokeswoman Stephanie Longoria at the air base said the service was looking into reports that a jet crashed, but had no further information.
