The Senate has suspended screening and confirmation of the remaining ministerial nominees till next week.

Meanwhile, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has formally communicated President Muhammadu Buhari on the confirmation of 18 nominees whose names were among those forwarded to the Senate for consideration.

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the Senate President, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki yesterday sent the official letter through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Legislative Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang.

According to Olaniyonu, Saraki in the letter, informed the President that the Senate has found the 18 nominees who have gone through its confirmation hearing suitable to occupy the office of ministers

Chairman of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Media, Information and Public Affairs, Dino Melaye, said the remaining 18 nominees, including former governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, and Adebayo Shittu from Oyo State, whose names were in the first batch but could not be screened Wednesday, would be taken between Tuesday and Wednesday next week. According to him, nine of the nominees are expected to be screened each day.

Speaking on outcome of Ethics and Privileges Committee’s investigation of a petition against Amaechi, Melaye said considering that issue concerning Amaechi is in court, the Senate may not have any option than to go ahead and screen him for confirmation as a minister.

His words: “The committee has a one line report, that the matter is in court and that in compliance with our laid down rules and regulations, which stipulate that any case that is undergoing judicial remedy cannot be discussed, we have distanced ourselves from it.

“The report will be presented on Tuesday by the grace of God and I assure Nigerians Amaechi will be screened on Tuesday.”
