Germany expects 1.5million refugees this year- Report

German authorities expect up to 1.5 million asylum seekers to arrive in Germany this year – almost double the current official forecast, a report said on Monday.

“Migratory pressures will increase further;, we now expect 7,000 and 10,000 illegal border crossings every day in the fourth quarter,” the report added while citing confidential internal government projections.

Up until now, the German government has said it expects the number of asylum seekers making their way to the country to be about 800,000 this year.

“The high number of asylum seekers runs the risk of becoming an enormous burden for the states and municipalities.

“Those who are granted asylum will also bring their families to Germany,’’ the report said.

The report is likely to add to tensions in the country about the wave of refugees crossing its borders, with state and regional governments saying they were already overburdened by the number of asylum seekers and frictions emerging in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s ruling coalition
